Here, then, are the six Classic venues as shown left to right:

•CIVIC/MELLON ARENA: Home of the Pittsburgh Penguins—its obvious cognomen “The Igloo” has to be the ultimate coincidence for a sports team and its venue.

•NASSAU VETERANS MEMORIAL COLISEUM (commonly known as NASSAU COLISEUM): Home of the New York Islanders—like the Veterans this venue pays homage to, the Islanders displayed their own brand of heroics by capturing an astounding four straight Stanley Cup Championships starting within a decade of their founding.

•SPECTRUM: Home of the Philadelphia Flyers—its address was famously linked to the nickname that defined the powerful Flyer teams of the 1970s … “The Broad Street Bullies.”

•THE FORUM: Home of the Los Angeles Kings—its grandeur--both outside and what occurred inside--truly rivals its ancient Roman namesake.

•MET CENTER (originally METROPOLITAN SPORTS CENTER): Home of the Minnesota North Stars—considered one of the NHL’s finest arenas for its famed sight lines and its ice surface. Its exterior was just as impressive with its concrete panels and columns as well as its inviting canopy-covered entrances. Hockey Heaven, indeed!

•ST. LOUIS ARENA: Home of the St. Louis Blues—affectionately known as “the Old Barn,” it was the epitome of old-time charm and character. Superior sight lines, ear-splitting crowds and all those renovations only added to its allure.
